Rod Stewart cancels third concert in recent weeks amid health concerns
Rod Stewart has cancelled a concert mere hours before it was set to commence on Friday, raising fresh concerns over his health.

Sir Rod Stewart has regrettably announced the cancellation of yet another concert, marking the third time in just a few weeks that the music icon has been unable to perform due to health issues. The 81-year-old star was scheduled to grace the stage at the North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre in Chula Vista, California, on Friday night as part of his much-anticipated One Last Time tour. However, fans were informed just hours before the event that it would not take place.

In a statement shared across Stewart’s social media platforms, it was revealed that the legendary singer had developed an acute upper respiratory infection, which subsequently led to laryngitis, rendering him unable to sing. The message read: “Rod Stewart very regretfully has had to cancel his show tonight in Chula Vista, California. He travelled to the venue and made every effort to perform, but on the advice of his doctors, he is unable to take to the stage this evening.”

Stewart later took to social media to express his disappointment, sharing a poignant photograph of himself standing alone in the now-empty venue, with crew members dismantling the stage around him. “Following treatment, I’m feeling much better, but my voice is not,” he lamented. “I’m very disappointed and sincerely apologise for any inconvenience to my fans.” He reassured his supporters, stating, “I did everything I could to make the show happen tonight, but unfortunately, it just wasn’t possible. I will do my utmost to reschedule.”

This latest cancellation adds to a series of health-related setbacks for the Maggie May singer. Just last month, he was compelled to cancel two performances from his long-running Las Vegas residency after being advised to rest his voice while recovering from a sinus infection. At that time, he expressed his regret to fans, emphasising the need for vocal rest during his recovery.

The recent spate of cancellations has understandably sparked concerns among his loyal fanbase, particularly as Stewart embarks on what has been labelled his farewell large-scale world tour. The One Last Time tour, which commenced in 2024, has seen the singer perform across North America while continuing his successful residency at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.

Despite these health challenges, Stewart has consistently maintained that he has no intention of retiring from music altogether, although he has acknowledged that extensive touring is becoming increasingly taxing. Last year, he faced similar difficulties, having to cancel and postpone several performances leading up to his highly anticipated appearance at the Glastonbury Festival due to illness.

Outside of music, Stewart has remained a prominent figure in the headlines, often due to his outspoken political views. Recently, he stirred controversy by expressing support for Reform UK leader Nigel Farage, urging voters to give him a chance following years of Conservative governance.

However, the singer also garnered praise from some quarters after appearing to take a swipe at former US President Donald Trump during an event attended by King Charles. At The King’s Trust 50th Anniversary Celebration held at London’s Royal Albert Hall in May, Stewart commended the monarch for his handling of Trump during the latter's recent visit, stating, “May I say, well done in the Americas. You were superb, absolutely superb. Put that little ratbag in his place.”

Looking ahead, Stewart is currently slated to return to the stage in Colorado on June 15, although fans will undoubtedly be hoping for no further cancellations before then. As the music legend navigates these challenging times, his supporters remain steadfast, eagerly awaiting his return to the spotlight.
